Shakespeare’s greatest romance – Romeo and Juliet – brought to life at Craig-y-nos Country Park

For the first time in its 30 year history the Miracle Theatre presents Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ this summer, promising a totally original and romantic world where senses soar and humour is found in unexpected places – an open-air theatre experience which will captivate audiences of all ages.  Many people will know the tale of star crossed lovers and feuding families – the Montagues and the Capulets – intent on preventing the course of true through Baz Luhrmann’s impossibly romantic screen version with a young Leonardo DiCaprio and Clare Danes – but nothing beats seeing it live.

National Park Visitor Centre Manager for Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority, Richard Levy said: “Craig-y-nos Country Park is an extraordinarily beautiful setting which is perfect for the performance of ‘Romeo and Juliet’.  With a magnificent display of summer colour and the heavy scent of wild flowers, we hope that this setting will give their production a unique edge and appeal to theatre goers who are looking for something different.”

Wynne Roberts Director of The Welfare Ystradgynlais said “The Miracle Theatre are well known for their wonderfully engaging productions for adults and young people and Romeo and Juliet is the ultimate Shakespearean experience – it’s got everything: comedy, passion, betrayal, heroism, tragedy – combine that with the beautiful surrounding of the Country Park and you couldn’t ask for anything more from a theatre production.”

To enhance this magical summer experience, theatre goers are asked to bring a picnic, something chilled to drink, their own chairs, rugs and blankets for the evening.  Being an outdoor performance, it is advisable to come dressed for the weather of the day, as the performances will continue in all but the most severe of weather.
