About us

When were we designated?  Bannau Brycheiniog National Park was designated in 1957

What are we here to do?  The remit of our work is set out in our Statutory Purposes and Statutory Duty.  In summary these are

  • to protect the natural beauty of the Park;
  • to help visitors enjoy and understand it; and
  • to foster the wellbeing of local people.

How do we see the future of the National Park?  We have a clear vision for the National Park for the next 20 years.  This sets the scene for all our strategic documents.

Who does the work?  The Park is administered by a special National Park Authority made up of 18 members, over 100 staff and our volunteers.

Our Administrative Make up – Our administrative area covers parts of 9 of Unitary Authorities.  We are the planning authority, while the Unitary Authorities retain responsibility for all other local government services within their areas of the park.
