Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority and Bannau Brycheiniog Tourism held an event at Theatr Brycheiniog to celebrate the destination’s recent success at the National Tourism Awards. Bannau Brycheiniog was voted as Wales’ Best Destination.
The celebratory event was a chance to thank Bannau Brycheiniog Sustainable Destination partners and private businesses for all their hard work and efforts. The Bannau Brycheiniog destination has been created through an integrated approach involving partnership work between 35 public, private and voluntary sector bodies led by Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority, Bannau Brycheiniog Tourism and working very closely with local tourism businesses.
Tourism is fundamental within the Corporate Plan for Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority and plays a significant role in developing a sustaining economy. Bannau Brycheiniog welcomes over five million visitors a year and the tourism product on offer is very diverse, attracting an array of visitors, from outdoor activity enthusiasts to heritage explorers.
The prestigious title can now be used by businesses to further promote what this region offers and will hopefully attract even more visitors to further fuel the local economy. A toolkit of resources will be launched soon, which will include a Best Destination logo that businesses can use on their websites and a window sticker.
Mel Doel, Chairman of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority said;
“This award is a result of the dedication and determination shown by the organisations that make up Bannau Brycheiniog Sustainable Destination Partnership including Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority, Bannau Brycheiniog Tourism, our Local Authorities, the many diverse local businesses and our Wardens and volunteer network, who all provide endless time and effort in helping us shape this magnificent landscape. Creating a ‘destination’ involves an integrated partnership approach and this is something that we’ve proudly achieved in the Bannau Brycheiniog and we’re thrilled to be chosen as Wales’ Best Destination.”
Colin Evans, Chairman of Bannau Brycheiniog Tourism added;
“We are delighted the Bannau Brycheiniog won Wales’ Best Destination! It’s a result of many years of partnership working by the Bannau Brycheiniog Sustainable Destination Partnership and tourism businesses who have all helped promote and showcase the Bannau Brycheiniog. We hope this two year award will attract more people to the region to further boost our local economy. Bannau Brycheiniog Tourism are planning a wider industry event in May to continue the celebrations – details will be released soon”
