Organised by Tony Bain from Green Dragon Activities, the event offered people the chance to try bathtubbing ahead of the World Bathtubbing Championships which are being held in Llanwrtyd Wells later this year in October.
Supported by Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority and British Waterways, the event also aimed to help promote the 200th Anniversary of the Brecon Monmouthshire Canal which is set to kick off in 2011, along with the communities and local businesses in the villages along the canal.
Speaking after the event Tony Bain said: “It was an arduous journey given the hot weather but the tree lined canal giving cool respite to the burning rays of the sun. We’ve had quite a bit of interest from people on their canal boats – most of them rushed for their cameras as we passed commenting ‘in all my years on the canal’ and “I have never seen the likes’. One chap even asked if he could borrow my bathtub to paint the sides of his boat!
“It was a great day made even better when we stopped for lunch at the local pub in Pencelli which is in the new Canal Food Trail. We did get a bit of a helping hand after lunch from one of the canal boats who towed the kayaks some of the way. All in all this was really a wonderful day out and we got to meet so many new friends along the canal that I hope to do it all again soon in time for the lead up to the Bathtubbing World Championships.”
