By co-operating with the Powys Sustainable Tourism project, and with funding from SWWITCH, the Authority has commissioned a Visitor Transport Plan. The aim of the Plan is to improve sustainable tourism across Powys and the Bannau Brycheiniog by encouraging low-carbon modes of transport and reducing the mileage of cars. Is is estimated that 88% of visitors travel in cars to get to their holiday in Mid Wales and that most of them continue to use their cars after they arrive. Most visitors travel 300 to and from their holiday in this area and 300 miles or more whilst here.
The plan contains an audit of local transport routes and infrastructure, an audit of tourist attractions, research into best practice in the UK and Europe and recommendations for the future.
