If music be the food of love then play on….

Brecon may not have a Bandstand, but with the help of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority, the Brecon Town Concert Band has hired the National Park Authority’s Sustainable Events marquee and will be playing on the lawn of the National Park Visitor Centre from 2pm – 4pm this Sunday 26th September.   The Visitor Centre Tearooms will be serving afternoon tea for visitors to enjoy on the patio whilst listening to the varied selection of music that the Band will play – which will include toe-tapping hits from films, shows and old favourites like Tom Jones and Elvis.

More than 70 bands will be performing in outdoor locations across the UK in the National Bandstand Marathon Event sponsored by Superact – an organisation which seeks to keep the tradition of outdoor music alive and reclaim our open spaces as places for community events.

The concert will be a particularly important day for the Brecon Town Concert Band as the performance forms part of their bid to be invited to play at the 2012 Olympics Cultural Olympiad where successful local music groups will provide the music at various sporting venues throughout the duration of the Olympic Games.

Cllr Gareth Ratcliffe, Member for Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority and Member Champion for National Park Visitor Centres said:  “Free concerts in local parks and village halls used to be commonplace and were such a great way to showcase local musicians and bring communities together, so we are delighted to help host this free concert and the Brecon Town Concert Band’s bid for the Cultural Olympiad.  I have been told that they have many new members on board, so if they were successful in their bid it would be an excellent opportunity to showcase the young talent from Brecon to an international audience.  We hope as many people as possible to come along and support them in their Olympic bid.”
