Carol was nominated for the Abergavenny Tourism Award by the Abergavenny and District Tourist Association and was voted the unanimous winner by its Members.
Carol received her award from Mrs Gwen Jones, Chairman of Abergavenny and District Tourist Association.
Tourism is a £206 million a year industry in the Bannau Brycheiniog and there are more than 4000 full time equivalent jobs (21% of the working population) in tourism throughout the Bannau Brycheiniog.
Mrs Jones said the Abergavenny Tourism Award was created to honor those individuals working in the industry or businesses that have gone above and beyond the call of duty. “Every year we ask for nominations for a person, business or organisation that has given something special to tourism. Carol was nominated for her drive, determinations and enthusiasm and for pushing forward all that has been achieved under her guidance.
“Carol has been lifeline and inspiration during the last two years. Her expertise and practical help to develop new visitor products has been tireless, this is ongoing as we are now working on a very exciting marketing project with Arriva Trains to fill Autumn and Winter bed spaces.
“When people come to Abergavenny we try and make them stay a little longer in the area and we have Carol to thank for that. When you go out of your way to make a tremendous impression on our visitors and tourism businesses that speaks volumes. This award to Carol Williams is very much deserved.”
Receiving her award, Carol Williams said: “I’m delighted and quite overwhelmed to receive this award. The Abergavenny and District Tourist Association have worked very hard to build up the profile of Abergavenny as a destination and they are reaping the rewards. Abergavenny is a popular place for tourists to visit and I am looking forward to working with them on future projects to build on their recent successes.”
Last year’s Abergavenny Tourism Award was given to the Bevan Family from Great Trerhiw Farm in Llanvetherine. They owned the farm and took part in the first BBC Lambing Live programme which lifted the profile of Abergavenny in the national media.
